This pure – and very rare – African sativa (sativa/indica ratio of 100:0) takes its name from one of the largest cities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Either that or Dr. Kananga, the James Bond villain played by Yaphet Kotto. In any event, Kananga the marijuana strain is an effective treatment for numerous medical conditions, including anxiety, hyperactivity, and inattentiveness. This makes it an ideal choice for patients with mood disorders or ADHD. The high focuses almost exclusively on the mind, a product of Kananga’s sativa background. The effects are energized and euphoric, with sharp mental focus and a dose of creativity. Data on the THC and CBD levels in this strain are scarce, but the few available tests suggest neither chemical is abundant: Kananga is roughly 10% THC and less than 1% CBD. The lack of CBD means this strain shouldn’t be used to treat seizure disorders or other conditions that require that cannabinoid. Kananga has purple leaves and long, rust-red hairs, along with a frosty layer of trichomes. It smells of flowers and tastes of grapes. This strain is definitely a rarity, at least outside of Africa. It might occasionally appear in the American West, but the easiest way to find it is usually to grow it at home.
